Meeting No. 41

Tuesday, December 4, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 10:03 a.m. this day, in Room 701 La Promenade, the Chair, Ovid Jackson presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Val Meredith, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Air Transport Association of Canada: Warren Everson, Vice-President, Policy and Strategic Planning; J.Clifford MacKay, President and CEO. From Transport Canada: John A. Read, Director General, Transport Dangerous Goods; William J.S. Elliott, Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security Group; Hal Whiteman, Director General, Security and Emergency Preparedness; Sherill Besser, Senior Counsel, Legal Services.

The Order of Reference dated Tuesday, November 30, 2001, was read as follows:

ORDERED: - That Bill C-44, An Act to amend the Aeronautics Act be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations.

Warren Everson made an opening statement and, with J. Clifford Mackay, answered questions.

 

The sitting was suspended at 11:02 a.m.

 

The sitting was resumed at 11:07 a.m.

 

William Elliott made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 1:11 p.m., the Committee adjourned until 3:30 p.m.
