MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 5

Tuesday, March 27, 2001

The Sub-Committee on Private Members' Business of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 306, West Block, the Chair, Carolyn Parrish, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Garry Breitkreuz, Michel Guimond, Carolyn Parrish and Marcel Proulx.

Acting Members present: Gerald Keddy for Rick Borotsik; Wendy Lill for Bill Blaikie.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Robert Asselin, research officer and James Robertson, research officer.

Witnesses: From the House of Commons: Stan Keyes, Art Hanger, Chuck Cadman, Leon Benoit, Pat Martin, James Moore, Lorne Nystrom, Sarkis Assadourian, Guy St-Julien, Charles Caccia, Svend Robinson, Jim Abbott, Deepak Obhrai and Jay Hill.

Pursuant to the Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs adopted on Wednesday, February 7, 2001, the Sub-Committee proceeded to select votable items from bills and motions whose order of precedence has been established on Tuesday, March 20, 2001.

The witnesses made a statement and answered questions.

It was agreed, - That a draft survey concerning Private Members' Business be examined by the members of the Sub-Committee at a future meeting.

It was further agreed, - That the survey be circulated after the Easter adjournment.

At 5:50 p.m., the sitting resumed "In Camera" to select votable items.

At 6:30 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
