Tuesday, April 23, 2002

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met by videoconference at 7:05 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Stéphane Bergeron, Bev Desjarlais, Brian Fitzpatrick, Cheryl Gallant, Walt Lastewka, Serge Marcil, Dan McTeague, James Rajotte and Joseph Volpe.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw and Lalita Acharya, Research Officers.

Witness: As Individual: Fiona Q. Wood, Senior Research Fellow and Lecturer, Centre for Higher Education and Management Policy, School of Professional Development and Leadership, University of New England.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Three Federal Granting Agencies, Peer Review Funding, and the Canada Research Chairs Program (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, October 16, 2001, Meeting No. 39).

Fiona Wood made an opening statement and answered questions.

By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to the election of a Vice-Chair pursuant to Standing Order 106(2).

Cheryl Gallant moved, -- That James Rajotte be elected Vice-Chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

At 8:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
