MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 5

Tuesday, March 20, 2001

The Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology met in a televised session at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Pierre Brien, Marlene Jennings, Walt Lastewka, Preston Manning, Dan McTeague, Charlie Penson, Paddy Torsney and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: John Godfrey for Mauril Bélanger, John Bryden for John Cannis, Gurbax Malhi for Andy Savoy, Stockwell Day for James Rajotte, Gilles Duceppe for Jocelyne Girard-Bujold, Alexa McDonough for Bev Desjarlais, Joe Clark for Scott Brison and Peter MacKay for Scott Brison.

Other Member present: James Rajotte.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Geoffrey P. Kieley and Dan Shaw, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Industry: Howard R. Wilson, Ethics Counsellor; Diane Champagne-Paul, Registrar, Lobbyists Registration Branch.

At 3:35 p.m., Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the issues on the Golf Course, the Auberge and the Conflict of Interest Code.

Stockwell Day moved, - That this Committee send for Mr. Jonas Prince to appear as a witness regarding his ownership of the shares in 161341 Canada Inc.

Pursuant to the two (2) days notice motion adopted on Wednesday, February 21, 2001 the motion was tabled.

Howard Wilson made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:15 p.m., Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the Statutory Review of the Lobbyists Registration Act.

Diane Champagne-Paul and Howard Wilson each made an opening statement , and answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
