MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 71

Wednesday, June 5, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 3:50 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Dennis Mills, Chuck Strahl and Tony Tirabassi.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Cofman, intern; Joseph Jackson, Terrence Thomas, Sam Banks, research officers.  Consultant:  David Black.  Expert Advisors:  Marc Raboy and David Taras.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a discussion of future business.

It was agreed, - That, when the Sub-Committee on Sport in Canada shall present its report on Bill C-54, An Act to promote physical activity and sport, the said report be deemed adopted by the Standing Committee, and that the Chair present it to the House as the Committee's report.

 

It was agreed, - That, the evidence received during the Committee's consideration of Bill S-7, An Act to amend the Broadcasting Act, and of Bill C-48, An Act to amend the Copyright Act, be adduced as supplementary evidence for the Study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.

 

It was agreed, - That, the contract to retain the professional services of David Black, prepared subsequent to the motion agreed to on Thursday, March 21, 2002, be amended to increase the total expenditure from $60,000.00 to $99,000.00

 

It was agreed, - That, the contract to retain the services of David Keeble, prepared subsequent to the motion agreed to on Wednesday, May 8, 2002, be amended to increase the total expenditure from $6,000.00 to $26,000.00

 

It was agreed, - That as part of the testimony of the Broadcast review that the committee view the ‘Milkman’ Zed TV Broadcast at the first available opportunity. 

At 5:36 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
