Meeting No. 88

Tuesday, June 11, 2002

The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Bonnie Brown, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Bonnie Brown, Jeannot Castonguay, James Lunney, Réal Ménard, Rob Merrifield, Hélène Scherrer, Judy Sgro, Carol Skelton, Yolande Thibeault.

Acting Members present: Hedy Fry for Bob Speller, Nancy Karetak-Lindell for Stan Dromisky, Paul Szabo for Stan Dromisky.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier, Sonya Norris and Monique Hébert, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General: Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General; Alan Gilmore, Principal. From the Department of Health: Ian Shugart, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Policy and Communications Branch; Caroline Weber, Director General, Policy Planning and Priorities Directorate; Francine Manseau, Senior Policy Analyst, Health Policy and Communications Branch, Special Projects Division. From the Department of Justice: Glenn Rivard, Senior Legal Counsel. As Individual: Gerald Chipeur, Lawyer.

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-56, An Act respecting assisted human reproduction (See Minutes of Proceedings, Thursday, May 30, 2002, Meeting No. 85).

Maria Barrados made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

By unanimous consent it was agreed, -- That the Committee approve the proposed operational budget of $29,500.00 in respect of the Committee’s consideration of Bill C-56, and that the Chair be authorized to present it to the Liaison Committee for its approval.

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
