The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in a video recorded session at 8:32 a.m. this day, in Salon A of the Delta Hotel in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Andy Burton, Rodger Cuzner, Wayne Easter, Loyola Hearn, James Lunney, Bill Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy, Peter Stoffer, Tom Wappel.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the Fisheries Association of Newfoundland and Labrador: Alastair O'Reilly, President. From the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union: Earle McCurdy, President; Ches Cribb, Vice-President, Deep Sea Sector. From the Fishery Products International Limited: Ray Andrews, Director, Industrial and Government Relations. From the Fisheries Crisis Alliance: Gus Etchegary, Spokesperson. From Efford Pinhorn Consulting: John Efford, Owner. From the New Democratic Party of Newfoundland and Labrador: Jack Harris, Leader. From the Town of Trepassey: Tony Hewitt, Mayor. From the Salmonid Association of Eastern Newfoundland: Don Norman, Member of the Executive; Ken McLean, Chair, Fish Management Committee. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of the implications of extending Canada's Exclusive Economic Zone to include the Nose and Tail of the Grand Banks and the Flemish Cap (See Minutes of Proceedings of Monday, March 11, 2002, Meeting No. 42).

Alastair O'Reilly made a presentation and answered questions.

Earle McCurdy made a presentation and, with Ches Cribb, answered questions.

At 10:43 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:51 a.m., the sitting was resumed.

Ray Andrews made a presentation and answered questions.

Gus Etchegary made a presentation and answered questions.

At 12:33 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 1:05 p.m., the sitting resumed.

John Efford made a presentation and answered questions.

At 1:47 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to hear evidence on local fishery issues.

Jack Harris made a presentation and answered questions.

Tony Hewitt and Wilf Sutton made a presentation and answered questions.

Don Norman made a presentation and, with Ken McLean, answered questions

Bernadette Dwyer made a presentation and answered questions.

Carl Powell made a presentation and answered questions.

At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
