MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 34

Thursday, December 6, 2001

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Andy Burton, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Wayne Easter, Georges Farrah, Loyola Hearn, Bill Matthews, Tom Wappel.

Acting Members present: Gerry Byrne for Paul Steckle, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold for Suzanne Tremblay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Aquaculture Strategies Incorporated: Len Stewart, President. From the New Brunswick Salmon Growers Association: Glenn Cooke, Chief Executive Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a meeting on the dumping of aquaculture products and its effects on Canadian producers.

Glenn Cooke made a statement and, with Len Stewart, answered questions.

At 10:14 a.m. the meeting was suspended.

At 10:19 a.m., the meeting resumed in camera.

The Committee resumed consideration of the draft report on Marine Infrastructure (Small Craft Harbours).

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the Report.

It was agreed, - That, pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request the Government to table a comprehensive response to the Report within 150 days.

It was agreed, - That the Draft Report, as amended, of the Committee's study of the maintenance of small craft harbours pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), be adopted as the Committee's Fifth Report, and that the Chair present the said report to the House.

It was agreed, - That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), the Committee authorize the printing of any dissenting opinion as appendices to the report immediately following the signature of the Chair, and that any such dissenting opinion be received by the Clerk not later than 6 p.m., Monday, December 10, 2001.

At 10:51 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
