Meeting No. 37
Tuesday, October 2, 2001
The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met in a televised session at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block.
Members of the Committee present: Bernard Bigras, Charles L. Caccia, Joe Comartin, Paul Forseth, John Herron, Gar Knutson, Karen Kraft Sloan, Rick Laliberte, Bob Mills, Karen Redman, Julian Reed, Andy Savoy, Hélène Scherrer, Alan Tonks.
Acting Members present: Rick Casson for Roy Bailey.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Kristen Douglas and Tim Williams, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General of Canada: Johanne Gélinas, Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development; Neil Maxwell, Principal, Audit Operations Branch; John Reed, Principal, Audit Operations; Dan Rubenstein, Principal, Audit Operations.
Organization meeting, pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and (2): Election of a Chair and Vice-Chairs.
The Clerk presided over the election of the Chair.
Bob Mills moved, - That Charles Caccia be elected as Chair of the Committee.
Bob Forseth moved, - That Bob Mills be elected as Chair of the Committee.
By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to the election of the Chair by secret ballot.
Accordingly, Charles Caccia was elected as Chair.
Charles Caccia took the Chair.
Gar Knutson moved, - That Bob Mills be elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Joe Comartin moved, - That John Herron be elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.
Bob Mills moved, - That Karen Kraft Sloan be elected as Vice-Chair of the Committee.
By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to the election of Vice-Chairs of the Committee by secret ballot.
Accordingly, Bob Mills and Karen Kraft Sloan were elected as Vice-Chairs of the Committee.
By unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to a study of the 2001 Annual Report of the Commissioner of the Environment and Sustainable Development.
Johanne Gélinas made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 1:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
