Meeting No. 7

Tuesday, November 30, 1999

The Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met in a televised session at 11:15 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Peter Adams, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Peter Adams, Paul Crête, Raymonde Folco, John Godfrey, Judi Longfield, Larry McCormick, Rey Pagtakhan, Maurice Vellacott and Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member(s) present: Angela Vautour for Jean Dubé, Jocelyne Girard-Bujold for Christiane Gagnon.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder, Researcher and Kevin Kerr, Researcher.

Witness(es): From the Department of Human Resources Development Canada: Avrim Lazar, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic Policy; Ron Stewart, Director General, Labour Market Directorate; Jean-Pierre Voyer, Director General, Applied Research Branch; Serge Bertrand, Director, Evaluation Services; Marie-France Kingsley, Policy Analyst, Learning, Employment and Labour Policy.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), a status report on the report "Looking Ahead: An interim Report on Older Workers"

Avrim Lazar made a statement and with the other witnesses answered questions.

At 12:47 the Committee proceeded to discuss other business.

Having given the 48 hours notice Paul Crête, moved, -- That the Committee receive the Auditor General to learn his reaction to the government response to the unanimous report of the Human Resources Committee on the Social Insurance Number.

The question being put on the motion it was agreed to.

Having given the 48 hours notice, Paul Crête moved, -- That the Committee on Human Resources hear from representatives of the Millennium Foundation before the December adjournment, if necessary after having heard the Minister.

And debate arising thereon,

Judy Longfield moved the following amendment, -- That the motion be amended by striking out the words "heard from" and substituting the following: "invite".

After debate, the question being put on the amendment it was agreed to.

The question being put on the main motion as amended it was agreed to.

At 12:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
