Meeting No. 24

Thursday, June 1st, 2000

The Standing Committee on Health met at 8:35 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Lynn Myers, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Yvon Charbonneau, Ovid Jackson, Réal Ménard, Bob Mills, Lynn Myers, Karen Redman, Paul Szabo.

Acting Member present: Joe Jordan for Ted McWhinney.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Nancy Miller Chenier; Tim Williams, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Bakery Confectionary, Tobacco and Grain Millers Union: Sean Kelly, International Vice President; Robert Janowski, Member, Local 338P, BCTGM; Harry Kaiser, Consultant, BCTGM; Gordon Wilson, Consultant, BCTGM. Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Friday, May 12, 2000 the Committee resumed consideration of the Proposed Tobacco Regulations (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday May 31, 2000, Meeting No. 22).

Henri Massé and Sean Kelly made statements and, with the other witnesses from the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec and the Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco and Grain Millers Union, answered questions.

At 9:35 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:40 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Professor Rob Donovan, Rob Cunningham, Dr. Peter A.R. Glynn, Louis Brisson, Louis Gauvin and Clive Bates made statements and answered questions.

At 11:05 a.m., the sitting was suspended

At 11:10 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Dr. Donna Dasko and Grégoire Gollin made statements and answered questions.

Dr. Saul Shiffman and Frederick Weston made statements and answered questions.

At 12:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
