The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met at 1:16 p.m. this day, in the Crowne Plaza Georgia Hotel, Vancouver, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Yvan Bernier, John Cummins, John Duncan, Wayne Easter, Lawrence O'Brien, Carmen Provenzano, Lou Sekora, Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, Research Officer.

Witness(es): From the West Coast Sustainability Association: Dan Edwards, President. From the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society: Sabine Jessen, Executive Director, B.C. Chapter. From the UFAWU-CAW: John Radosovic, President. From the Union of B.C. Indian Chiefs: Stewart Phillip, President; Tom Nelson, Councillor; Victor Isaac, Vice President; Ardith Walkem, Lawyer. From the Department of Fisheries and Oceans: Ron Kehl, Field Supervisor, Port Alberni; Herb Redekop, Acting Conservation and Protection Supervisor; Robert Martinolich, Acting Director, Conservation and Protection; Paul Mcgillivray, Regional Director, Fisheries Management, Pacific Region.

Pursuant to Section 52 of the Oceans Act, the Committee undertook a Review of the Act

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 3:45 o'clock p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 3:54 o'clock p.m. the sitting resumed.

At 3:55 o'clock p.m. the Committee met in camera.

At 5:23 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
