Meeting No. 20

Thursday, May 27, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Tax Equity for Canadian Families with Dependent Children of the Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Serge Cardin, Nick Discepola, Michelle Dockrill, John Herron, Karen Redman and Paul Szabo.

Acting Member present: Ken Epp for Paul Forseth.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Marion Wrobel, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: From the EGALE (Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere): Ron Chaplin, Chair, Political Action Committee; Todd Armstrong; Marion Steele. From the Canadian Union of Public Employees: Nancy Rosenberg, Senior Officer, Equality Branch.

Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Finance, dated March 17, 1999, the Sub-Committee resumed its study on Tax Fairness for Canadian Families with Dependent Children.

Ron Chaplin from EGALE and Nancy Rosenberg from the Canadian Union of Public Employees made opening statements and, with the other witnesses from EGALE, answered questions.

At 10:58 a.m., the Sub-Committee proceeded to sit in camera for the purpose of considering a draft report.

At 11:56 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
