Meeting No. 16

Friday, May 14, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Tax Equity for Canadian Families with Dependent Children of the Standing Committee on Finance met at 9:55 a.m. this day, in Opus II, Delta Montréal Hotel, Montreal, the Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Serge Cardin, Nick Discepola, Michelle Dockrill, Paul Forseth, John Herron and Paul Szabo.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Cusson, Analyst.

Witnesses: As Individuals: Gérard Croteau; Helen Lambrinakos. From the Confederation of National Trade Unions (CSN): Marc Laviolette, Vice-President; François Bélanger, Economist. As Individual: Peter Kirby, Counsel.

Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Finance, dated March 17, 1999, the Sub-Committee resumed its study on Tax Fairness for Canadian Families with Dependent Children.

Gérard Croteau and Helen Lambrinakos made opening statements and answered questions.

Marc Laviolette and François Bélanger from the Confederation of National Trade Unions (CSN) made opening statements and answered questions.

Peter Kirby made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 12:25 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
