Wednesday, May 12, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Tax Equity for Canadian Families with Dependent Children of the Standing Committee on Finance met at 1:05 p.m. this day, in Admiral's Ballroom, Radisson Plaza Admiral Hotel, Toronto, the Chair, Nick Discepola, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Serge Cardin, Nick Discepola, Michelle Dockrill, Paul Forseth, Karen Redman and Paul Szabo.

Acting Member present: Jim Jones for John Herron.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Julie Cusson, Analyst.

Witnesses: As Individual: Joseph & Rachel Difonzo; Alan Schwartz; Cheryl Stewart; Mel Tuck. From the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors: Karl Keilhack, Taxation Consultant. As Individual: Shannon Brodie; Deborah Kusturin; Wendy Racovali. From the National Association of Women and the Law: Kim Brooks, Member, Fiscal Policies Working Group; Lisa Philipps, Chair, Fiscal Policies Working Group. From the Real Women of Canada: Gwendolyn Landolt, National Vice-President; Lorraine McNamara, National Secretary. As Individuals: Chris Sarlo, Professor, Department of Economics, Nipissing University; Yvonne Choquette.

Pursuant to the motion adopted by the Standing Committee on Finance, dated March 17, 1999, the Sub-Committee resumed its study on Tax Fairness for Canadian Families with Dependent Children.

Joseph and Rachel Difonzo, Alan Schwartz, Cheryl Stewart and Mel Tuck made opening statements and answered questions.

Karl Keilhack from the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors made an opening statements and answered questions.

Shannon Brodie, Deborah Kusturin and Wendy Racovali made opening statements and answered questions.

At 4:51 p.m., Paul Szabo took the Chair.

At 5:07 p.m., the Chair took the Chair.

At 5:29 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
