Meeting No. 106

Wednesday, April 28, 1999

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Jim Hart, René Laurin, Judi Longfield, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, David Pratt, David Price, John Richardson, Bob Wood.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Corinne McDonald, Research Officer.

Appearing: From the Department of National Defence: The Hon. Arthur C. Eggleton, Minister of National Defence.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Jim Judd, Deputy Minister; Gen Maurice Baril, Chief of the Defence Staff; Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff; Pierre L. Lagueux, Assistant Deputy Minister, Materiel.

Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Monday, March 1st, 1999, a study of the Main Estimates 1999-2000 (Part II) - Votes 1, 5 and 10 under National Defence and Report on Plans and Priorities (Part III).

The Minister made an opening statement.

At 4:00 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Minister, with Jim Judd, Gen Maurice Baril, Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault and Pierre L. Lagueux, answered questions.

At 5:47 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
