Meeting No. 95

Thursday, March 4, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:35 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, Honourable Sheila Finestone, Bob Mills, Bernard Patry, Charlie Penson, Svend Robinson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

Acting Members present: Stéphan Tremblay for Benoît Sauvageau; Yvan Loubier for Daniel Turp.

Other member present: Andrew Telegdi.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Dupras; James Lee; Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers; Chris Maule and Roy Hines, Consultants.

Roundtable participants: From the Alliance of Manufacturers & Exporters Canada: Jayson Myers, Senior Vice-President and Chief Economist; Pamela Fehr, Policy Analyst. From the Consumers' Association of Canada: Dr. Robert Kerton, Chair, Trade Committee. From Grey, Clark, Shih and Associates: Peter Clark, President. From the International Institute for Sustainable Development: David Runnalls, Interim President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee continued its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings of October 22, 1998, Meeting no. 73.)

Jayson Myers, Dr. Robert Kerton, Peter Clark and David Runnalls each made an opening statements and answered questions.

At 12:10 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
