MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Meeting No. 5

MONDAY OCTOBER 27, 1997

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:37 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 308, West Block, Sarkis Assadourian, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, Maud Debien, Gurmant Grewal, Ted McWhinney, Svend Robinson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.

Acting Member present: Paul Bonwick for Colleen Beaumier.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament
: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Senate of Czech Republic: Senator Michael Žantovský, Chairman of the Committee and Chairman of the Senate Caucus of the Civic Democratic Alliance; Senator Vitězslav Matuška, Vice-Chairman of the Committee and Vice-Chairman, Senatorial Group of the Social Democratic Party; Senator Jan Krámek, Member of the Committee; Alena Doležaloná, Staff Member of the Committee; Michael Stasá, Staff Member.

In accordance with Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with a delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the Senate of the Czech Republic.

Senator Žantovský made a statement and, with the other members of the delegation, answered questions.

At 4:20 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
