MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 37

THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:12 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 257 of the East Block, the Chair, Bill Graham presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Bill Graham, Charlie Penson, Julian Reed, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

Members of the Senate present: Hon. Graham Stewart, Hon. Roch Bolduc, Hon. Pierre de Bané.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee, Gerald Schmitz and Peter Berg, Research Officers.

Delegation: Rudolf Filkus, Deputy Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, Independent; Dušan Slobodník, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for Movement for Democratic Slovakia (HZDS); Irena Belohorská, Vice-Chair of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for HZDS; Arpád Tarnóczy, Member of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for HZDS; Alica Bieliková, Member of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for HZDS; Jozef Hanker, Member of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for HZDS; Peter Lauko, Member of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for the Christian Democratic Movement; Lubomír Fogaš, Member of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for Party of Democratic Left; Eduard Kukan, Member of the Foreign Affairs Standing Committee, MP for Democratic Union and one of the leaders of the Slovak Democratic Coalition.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with a delegation from the Slovak Republic.

Members of the delegation made opening statements and answered questions.

At 10:11 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
