Meeting No. 117

Thursday, April 22, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:12 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, The Hon. Sheila Finestone, Bill Graham, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

Associate Member present: Sarmite Bulte.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Dupras; Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers; Chris Maule, Consultant.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Fertilizer Institute: Roger L. Larson, President; Paul Landsbergen, Communications and Member Services Officer. From the Fisheries Council of Canada: Ronald W. Bulmer, President. From the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency: Neil Currie, Chief Executive Officer; Felix Destrijker, Chairman. From the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association: Joel Neuheimer, Manager, Market Access, Trade Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of Canada's trade objectives and the forthcoming agenda of the World Trade Organization (WTO). (See the Minutes of Proceedings of October 22, 1998, Meeting No. 73.)

Roger L. Larson, Ronald W. Bulmer, Felix Destrijker and Joel Neuheimer each made an opening statement and, with Neil Currie, answered questions.

At 11:00 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
