Meeting No. 55

Thursday, March 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 9:11 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Rey Pagtakhan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, Leon Benoit, Sophia Leung, Pat Martin, Réal Ménard, Rey Pagtakhan and Andrew Telegdi.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Margaret Young, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the B'nai Brith Canada: David Matas, Senior Honourary Counsel; Robin Friedman, Director of Government Relations. From The Monarchist League of Canada: John Aimers, Chairman, Office of the Dominion.

Pursuant to an Order or Reference of the House dated March 1, 1999, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-63, An Act respecting Canadian citizenship. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, March 3, 1999, Meeting No. 50)

The Committee resumed consideration of Clause 2.

Robin Friedman and David Matas from B'nai Brith Canada made statements and answered questions.

John Aimers from the Monarchist League of Canada made a statement and answered questions.

At 11:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
