PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

Pursuant to Standing Order 30(6), the House proceeded to the consideration of Private Members' Business.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to a Legislative Committee of Bill C-208, An Act to amend the Members of Parliament Retiring Allowances Act.

Mrs. Wayne (Saint John), seconded by Mr. McClelland (Edmonton Southwest), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to a Legislative Committee.

Debate arose thereon.

Pursuant to Standing Order 96(1), the time provided for consideration of Private Members' Business expired and the Order was dropped from the Order Paper.

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development of Bill C-16, An Act to approve, give effect to and declare valid an agreement between Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada and the Dene of Colville Lake, Déline, Fort Good Hope and Fort Norman and the Metis of Fort Good Hope, Fort Norman and Norman Wells, as represented by the Sahtu Tribal Council, and to make related amendments to another Act.

Mr. Irwin (Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development), seconded by Mr. Gerrard (Secretary of State (Science, Research and Development)), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.

Introduction of Government Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Ms. Marleau (Minister of Health), for Ms. Copps (Minister of the Environment), seconded by Mr. Ouellet (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Bill C-23, An Act to implement a Convention for the protection of migratory birds in Canada and the United States, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.


Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Ms. Marleau (Minister of Health), for Ms. Copps (Minister of the Environment), seconded by Mr. Ouellet (Minister of Foreign Affairs), Bill C-24, An Act to amend the Canada Wildlife Act and to make a consequential amendment to another Act, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, a petition certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions was presented as follows:
