Presenting Petitions

Pursuant to Standing Order 36, petitions certified correct by the Clerk of Petitions were presented as follows:

-- by Mr. Martin (Esquimalt -- Juan de Fuca), one concerning landmines (No. 351-4116), one concerning the income tax system (No. 351-4117) and one concerning euthanasia (No. 351 -- 4118).

GOVERNMENT ORDERS

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Duncan (North Island -- Powell River), seconded by Mr. Kerpan (Moose Jaw -- Lake Centre), moved, -- That the House urge the government to not enter into any binding trilateral aboriginal treaty or land claim agreements in B.C. in the last year of the current provincial government mandate in order to respect the views of British Columbians on this issue as expressed by both major provincial opposition parties.

Debate arose thereon.

PRESENTING REPORTS FROM COMMITTEES

By unanimous consent, Mrs. Bakopanos (Saint-Denis), from the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration, presented the 9th Report of the Committee (immigration consultants). -- Sessional Paper No. 8510-351-178.

The Order was read for the second reading and reference to the Standing Committee on Health of Bill C-337, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (warning on alcoholic beverage containers).

Mr. Szabo (Mississauga South), seconded by Mrs. Payne (St. John's West), moved, -- That the Bill be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Health.

Debate arose thereon.

MESSAGES FROM THE SENATE

A Message was received from the Senate informing this House that the Senate has passed Bill S-12, An Act to amalgamate the Alberta corporation known as the Missionary Church with the Canada corporation known as the Evangelical Missionary Church, Canada West District, to which the concurrence of the House is desired.

Pursuant to Standing Order 135(2), the Bill was deemed to have been read the first time and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Szabo (Mississauga South), seconded by Mrs. Payne (St. John's West), -- That Bill C-337, An Act to amend the Food and Drugs Act (warning on alcoholic beverage containers), be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Health.

The debate continued.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.

Accordingly, the Bill was read the second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Health.
