Presenting Reports from Committees

Mr. Milliken (Parliamentary Secretary to the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons), from the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs, presented the 58th Report of the Committee, which was as follows:

The Committee recommends, pursuant to Standing Orders 104 and 114, the following change in the membership of the Standing Committee on Government Operations: Nunziata for Brushett.

A copy of the relevant Minutes of Proceedings and Evidence (Issue No. 40, which includes this Report) was tabled.


Mr. MacDonald (Dartmouth), from the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans, presented the 2nd Report of the Committee (Review of the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation). -- Sessional Paper No. 8510-351-76.

Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government was requested by the Committee to table a comprehensive response.

Motions

By unanimous consent, Ms. Copps (Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Environment), seconded by Mr. Duceppe (Laurier -- Sainte- Marie), moved, -- That the speech of His Excellency the Governor General, the Right Honourable Roméo LeBlanc, together with the address of welcome made by the Prime Minister in the Senate Chamber on February 8, 1995, be printed as an appendix to the official report of debates of the House of Commons, and form part of the permanent record of this Parliament.

    Q-96 -- Mr. Hill (Prince George -- Peace River) -- For each of the last three years, (a) how many times were firearms used in the commission of criminal offenses, (b) how many charges were laid under section 85 of the Criminal Code in each province, (c) how many of those charged with this offense were the legally registered owner of the firearm used in the commission (or attempted commission) of the crime, (d) how many charges were withdrawn, (e) how many charges resulted in acquittals, (f) how many charges resulted in convictions, and (g) what sentences were levied when convictions were registered?

Pursuant to Standing Order 39(7), the following question was made an Order of the House for a Return:

    Q-126 -- Mr. Simmons (Burin -- St. George's) -- What action is being taken by the Department of Finance and the Department of Revenue to resolve the problems associated with the tax assistance for retirement savings (TARS) program, including the need to improve accountability for the costs and results of the TARS program; the need to review, revise and strengthen the current compliance strategy; and the need for both departments to improve the information provided to Parliament on TARS, as outlined by the Auditor General in his 1994 Report?

PRIVATE MEMBERS' BUSINESS

Mr. Gilmour (Comox -- Alberni), seconded by Mr. Mills (Red Deer), moved, -- That, in the opinion of this House, the Government should support a policy that Canada's fresh water, ice and snow will be protected so that at all times and in all circumstances Canada's sovereignty over water is preserved and protected.
