Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, January 31, 2022, the committee commenced its study on the Canada–United States relationship and its impacts on the electric vehicle, softwood lumber and other sectors.

Gian Paolo Vescio, Sean Strickland, Brian Kingston, Daniel Breton, Scott MacKenzie and Shane Wark made statements and, with Angelo DiCaro, answered questions.

Committee Business
The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

Motion

Simon-Pierre Savard-Tremblay moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the committee undertake a study on Canadian mining companies abroad, particularly with respect to the environment and human rights; that the committee invite the Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development or experts whom the committee deems relevant; that the committee hold a minimum of three meetings; and that the committee report its findings and recommendations to the House.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.

At 5:26 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
