Pursuant to the order of reference of Monday, May 16, 2022, the committee resumed its study of the Canada–People’s Republic of China relations.

By unanimous consent, on motion of Robert Oliphant, it was agreed, — That the Chair report to the Minister and Deputy Minister of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, the concern that the committee is expressing around the failure of officials from the government to appear as scheduled; and ask for their cooperation in an immediate future appearance.

Antoine Bondaz made a statement and answered questions.

At 7:35 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 7:37 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Robert Huebert and Yeh-Chung Lu made statements and answered questions.

At 8:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 8:40 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The committee proceeded to give drafting instructions to the analysts for a draft report.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the draft interim report, members submit their suggested recommendations to the clerk of the committee no later than noon on Friday, November 25, 2022.

It was agreed, — That the officials scheduled to appear today be invited to appear on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

At 8:59 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
