Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-355, An Act to prohibit the export by air of horses for slaughter and to make related amendments to certain Acts.

Graeme Hamilton and Mary Jane Ireland made statements.

At 11:08 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the committee continue to sit.

Shannon Nix made a statement and, with Graeme Hamilton, Mary Jane Ireland and Rick James-Davies, answered questions.

It was agreed, — That Alistair MacGregor be permitted to complete his questioning time before the meeting is suspended for the vote.

Questioning of Graeme Hamilton, Cathy Toxopeus, Mary Janes Ireland, Rick James-Davies and Shannon Nix resumed.

At 11:39 a.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 11:43 a.m., the sitting resumed.

The committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to committee business.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $37,750, for the study of Bill C-355, An Act to prohibit the export by air of horses for slaughter and to make related amendments to certain Acts, be adopted.

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $39,750, for the study of issues relating to the horticultural sector, be adopted.

At 12:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:07 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Pursuant to the order of reference of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, the committee resumed consideration of Bill C-355, An Act to prohibit the export by air of horses for slaughter and to make related amendments to certain Acts.
