Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Monday, April 15, 2024, the committee commenced its study of Subject Matter of Supplementary Estimates (C), 2023-24: Vote 5c under Department of Veterans Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the committee commenced consideration of the 2024-25: Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Veterans Affairs, Vote 1 under Veterans Review and Appeal Board, referred to the committee on Thursday, February 29, 2024.

The Chair called Vote 1 under Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Minister made a statement and, with Paul Ledwell and Steven Harris, answered questions.

At 5:45 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:51 p.m., the sitting resumed.

Paul Ledwell, Steven Harris, Sara Lantz, Amy Meunier and Pierre Tessier answered questions.

Motion

Blake Richards moved, — That committee report to the House of Commons its deep disappointment that the Minister of Veterans Affairs has once again disrespected veterans by not fulfilling her obligation to appear publicly before the committee for the time requested of her, showing disregard for Canadian Veterans who expect transparency and accountability from the government.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Terry Dowdall, Blake Richards, Fraser Tolmie, Cathay Wagantall — 4;

NAYS: Rachel Blaney, Luc Desilets, Mona Fortier, Lisa Hepfner, Bryan May, Wilson Miao, Randeep Sarai — 7.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

By unanimous consent, the Chair called Vote 5 under Department of Veterans Affairs and Vote 1 under Veterans Review and Appeal Board.

Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Veterans Affairs and Vote 1 under Veterans Review and Appeal Board, less the amounts voted in the interim supply, carried on division.

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 1 and 5 under Department of Veterans Affairs and Vote 1 under Veterans Review and Appeal Board, less the amounts voted in the interim supply, to the House.
