Pursuant to Standing Order 106(4), the committee commenced consideration of the request by four members of the committee to discuss their request to invite the Minister of Justice to respond to questions about the vetting of judicial appointments.

Motion

Michael Cooper moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee conduct a study of at least one committee meeting to review judicial appointments and the process utilized by this government including the use of the government’s partisan database known as “Liberalist”; and that the committee invite the Minister of Justice to appear; and that the committee report its findings to the House.

Motion

James Maloney moved, — That the committee proceed to sit in camera.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Élisabeth Brière, Randall Garrison, Mike Kelloway, James Maloney, Randeep Sarai, Arif Virani — 6;

NAYS: Michael Cooper, Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay, Rhéal Éloi Fortin, Chris Lewis, Rob Moore — 5.

At 11:23 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:35 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

It was agreed, — That the committee commence consideration of a draft report regarding the study of elder abuse.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the committee on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, the committee resumed its study of elder abuse.

The committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 1:03 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
