Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Monday, June 13, 2016, the Committee resumed its study of poverty reduction strategies.

The Committee commenced consideration of a draft report.

At 12:19 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:20 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the Third Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in as amended:

Your Subcommittee met on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That, should Motion M-106 be adopted by the House of Commons, the Committee undertake a study of how the Government can support vulnerable seniors today while preparing for the diverse and growing seniors’ population of tomorrow;

That the Committee hear from witnesses for ten (10) meetings and report its findings to the House;

That three (3) meetings be dedicated to how the Government can improve access to housing for seniors including aging in place and affordable and accessible housing;

That three (3) meetings be dedicated to how the Government can improve the income security for vulnerable seniors;

That three (3) meetings be dedicated to how the Government can improve the overall quality of life and well-being for seniors including community programming, social inclusivity and social determinants of health;

That one (1) meeting be dedicated to hear from the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, departmental officials, and the sponsor of Motion M-106.

2. That the Chair, in relation to the study of the development of a national seniors strategy, in consultation with the Clerk and the Analysts, present a preliminary travel submission to the Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee, which includes travel to three (3) communities across Canada, Western, Central and East, for site visits and informal meetings.

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
