Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 25, 2016, the Committee resumed its study on family reunification.

Avvy Go, Vincent Wong, Vance P. E. Langford, Tamra Thomson and Chantal Desloges made statements and answered questions.

At 4:31 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

Motion

Jenny Kwan moved, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and in light of the House of Commons unanimously voting in favour of the motion for the Canadian government to use its full authority to provide asylum to Yazidi women and girls who are escaping genocide within 120 days, the Committee undertake a study and invite officials from the German government that led the German initiative to expeditiously resettle 1,000 Yazidi women and girls so that Canada could learn from their experiences; that this study be comprised of one meeting; that the Committee report its findings to the House; and that Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government table a comprehensive response thereto.

Amendment

Randeep Sarai moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the word “experiences” the following: “that departmental officials who travelled to Iraq brief the Committee on their experience at an in camera meeting”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Randeep Sarai and it was agreed to.

Amendment

Michelle Rempel moved, — That the motion be amended by adding after the words “comprised of one meeting” the following: “to be held as soon as possible”.

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Michelle Rempel and it was agreed to.

The motion, as amended, read as follows:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and in light of the House of Commons unanimously voting in favour of the motion for the Canadian government to use its full authority to provide asylum to Yazidi women and girls who are escaping genocide within 120 days, the Committee undertake a study and invite officials from the German government that led the German initiative to expeditiously resettled 1,000 Yazidi women and girls so that Canada could learn from their experiences; that departmental officials who travelled to Iraq brief the Committee on their experience at an in camera meeting; that this study be comprised of one meeting to be held as soon as possible; that the Committee report its findings to the House; and that Pursuant to Standing Order 109, the government table a comprehensive response thereto.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was agreed to.
