Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, the Committee resumed its study on the federal government’s initiative to resettle Syrian refugees to Canada.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 4:36 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That the fifth report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure, which read as follows, be concurred in as amended:

1. That the study on Family Reunification be comprised of 9 meetings in total, and that the first meeting take place on October 4, 2016 with the Minister and Departmental Officials.

2. That one meeting be dedicated to hearing from officials from 6 different processing centres, and that the officials to appear at this meeting be identified by the Committee following the production of a briefing note by the Library of Parliament analysts.

3. That the remaining 7 meetings be dedicated to hearing from 42 witnesses; that these witnesses be scheduled following the standard practice of the Committee – three (3) witnesses per one (1) hour panel, divided proportionally amongst the parties; and that the witness allotment consist of 25 witnesses for the Liberal Party, 13 witnesses for the Conservative Party, and 4 witnesses for the New Democratic Party.

4. That witnesses for the Family Reunification Study be submitted to the clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.

5. That consideration of the draft report on the Federal Government’s Initiative to Resettle Syrian Refugees take place on October 18, 2016, and that the draft report be circulated to Committee Members no later than 5:00 p.m. on October 11, 2016.

6. That senior administrative staff from the House of Commons and the Library of Parliament be invited before the Committee for an informal presentation on e-consultations on September 29, 2016, and that attendance be optional.

7. That Committee business be scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on October 4, 2016, in order to deal with any motions that may arise.

At 5:17 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
