Motion

John Barlow moved, — That the Committee immediately undertake a study on the government’s consultations titled “Tax Planning Using Private Corporations” as publicly released on July 18, 2017; that the Committee hear from witnesses on this topic for 15 meetings; that the hearings focus on the potential impact of the consultations, including making it easier to sell a family farm to a stranger than to a family member and how this will impact the Canadian agriculture and agri-food economy; that the findings be reported to the House; and that the government provide a response to the recommendations made by the Committee.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: John Barlow, Luc Berthold, Sylvie Boucher, Ruth Ellen Brosseau — 4;

NAYS: Pierre Breton, Francis Drouin, Lloyd Longfield, Eva Nassif, Joe Peschisolido — 5.

The Committee resumed consideration of food policy for Canada. Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
