Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 1, 2018, the Committee resumed its study of the support of Indigenous Canadians in the agriculture and agri-food industry.

Natan Obed, Chad Duplessie, by videoconference from Fredericton, New Brunswick, and Erica Ward, by videoconference from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Patrick Michell, by videoconference from Kamloops, British Columbia, and Reginald Bellerose, by videoconference from Regina, Saskatchewan, made statements and answered questions.

Motion

Alistair MacGregor moved, — That the Committee resume consideration of the motion moved by Alistair MacGregor, on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, which read as follows:

That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-food undertake a study on the current regulations prohibiting the commercialization of raw (unpasteurized) milk in Canada; that this study include hearing from witnesses regarding the current consumption of raw milk in Canada, how other jurisdictions regulate the sale of raw milk; and that the committee report its findings with recommendations back to the House of Commons.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 3; NAYS: 1.

The Committee resumed consideration of the motion moved by Alistair MacGregor, on Tuesday February 5, 2019.

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived on the following recorded division:

YEAS: Earl Dreeshen, Alistair MacGregor, David Yurdiga — 3;

NAYS: Pierre Breton, Francis Drouin, Eva Nassif, Joe Peschisolido, Kyle Peterson, Jati Sidhu — 6.

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:37 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the Interim Estimates 2019-20, the Committee invite the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to appear on Thursday, February 21, 2019, for two hours.

At 1:01 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
