The Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities met in a televised session at 1:04 p.m. this day, in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, Marjolaine Boutin-Sweet, Peter Braid, Hoang Mai, David J. McGuinty, Larry Miller, Mike Sullivan, Lawrence Toet and Jeff Watson.

 

Acting Members present: Paul Dewar for Olivia Chow, Cheryl Gallant for Ed Komarnicki and Hon. Gordon O'Connor for Wai Young.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Chad Mariage, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Allison Padova, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Canada Post: Deepak Chopra, President and Chief Executive Officer, Head Office; Jacques Côté, Group President, Physical Delivery Network, Head Office. Conference Board of Canada: David Stewart-Patterson, Vice-President, Public Policy. Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives: John Anderson, Research Associate, National Office. As an individual: Robert Campbell, President and Vice-Chancellor, Mount Allison University. Canadian Union of Postal Workers: Denis Lemelin, National President. Council of Canadians with Disabilities: Bob Brown, Member, Transportation Committee; Roy Hanes, Member, Social Policy Committee. C.D. Howe Institute: Benjamin Dachis, Senior Policy Analyst. Canadian Federation of Independent Business: Daniel Kelly, President and Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of the recent changes announced by Canada Post.
 

Deepak Chopra on panel 1 made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 2:02 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:03 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

David Stewart-Patterson, John Anderson, Denis Lemelin, and Robert Campbell, by videoconference from Sackville, New Brunswick, on panel 2 made statements and answered questions.

 

At 3:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:04 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Bob Brown and Roy Hanes on panel 3 made statements and answered questions.

 

At 3:15 p.m., David McGuinty took the Chair.

 

At 3:21 p.m., Larry Miller took the Chair.

 

Benjamin Dachis and Daniel Kelly, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario, on panel 3 made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:06 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
