EVIDENCE

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]

  (1530)

[Translation]

Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum.

[English]

We can now proceed to the election of a chair, pursuant to Standing Order 106(2). The chair must be a member of the government party.
I am ready to receive motions for the post of chair.
    Madam Charlton.
I nominate David Sweet. That's Hamilton solidarity.
It has been moved by Madam Charlton that David Sweet be elected chair of the committee.
    Are there any further motions?
    (Motion agreed to)
Before inviting Mr. Sweet to take the chair, if the committee wishes, we may now proceed to the election of vice-chairs.
    I nominate Chris Charlton.
The first vice-chair must be a member of the official opposition.
    Are there any further motions?
It has been moved by Ms. Sgro that Chris Charlton be elected as first vice-chair of the committee.
    (Motion agreed to)
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the second vice-chair must be a member of the opposition party other than the official opposition.
I am now prepared to receive a motion for the second vice-chair.
Due to the complexity, I didn't have a chance to weigh in on that.
It has been moved by Mr. Lake that Judy Sgro be elected as second vice-chair of the committee.
    (Motion agreed to)
    The Clerk: Mr. Sweet.

  (1535)

Thank you very much, colleagues. I appreciate the trust and confidence.
That was a very slim victory, Madam Sgro. I'm just amazed that you slipped by on that one.
I know I was going to have some real competition.
Without any unanimous consent for anything else, that's the end of our business. We'll have our first business meeting next week.
    The meeting is adjourned.
