The Standing Committee on Finance met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, James Rajotte, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mark Adler, Mike Allen, Guy Caron, Nathan Cullen, Gerald Keddy, James Rajotte, Murray Rankin, Andrew Saxton and Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Acting Members present: Rodger Cuzner for Hon. Scott Brison, Hon. Deepak Obhrai for Mark Adler and Jinny Jogindera Sims for Nathan Cullen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Mark Mahabir, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Christopher Worswick, Professor, Department of Economics, Carleton University. Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters: Martin Lavoie, Director, Manufacturing Competitiveness and Innovation Policy. Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, April 8, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures.
 

Christopher Worswick, Martin Lavoie, Matthew McGuire, Fred Webber and Guy Parent made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Nathan Cullen, it was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $32,350, for the study of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures, be adopted.

 

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, April 8, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-31, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on February 11, 2014 and other measures.
 

Sandra Nelson, John McAvity, Gregory Thomas, Blair Campbell and Sean Reid made statements and, with Shaunna Jennison-Yung, answered questions.

 

At 6:21 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
