The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 228, The Valour Building, the Chair, Gordon Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gordon Brown, Rick Dykstra, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, Kennedy Stewart, Terence Young and David Yurdiga.

 

Acting Members present: Mark Adler for Jim Hillyer, Scott Armstrong for John Weston, Alexandrine Latendresse for Pierre Nantel, Robert Sopuck for Jim Hillyer and Frank Valeriote for Hon. Stéphane Dion.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Michelle Legault, Procedural Clerk; Philippe Méla, Legislative Clerk. Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Michael Dewing, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Dan Harris, M.P., Scarborough Southwest.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 5, 2014, the Committee commenced consideration of Bill C-597, An Act to amend the Holidays Act (Remembrance Day).
 

Dan Harris made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 3:55 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), the sitting was suspended.

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-597. Questioning of the witness resumed.

 

Rick Dykstra moved, — That the Committee request an extension of thirty sitting days to consider Bill C-597, An Act to amend the Holidays Act (Remembrance Day), beyond the sixty days from the date of the Bill’s referral to the Committee, as provided in the Standing Order 97.1(1), to allow for an examination of the bill by the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 4.

 

At 5:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:30 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That a proposed budget in the amount of $ 32,700, for the review of the Canadian Feature Film Industry, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2015, be devoted entirely to the study of Bill S-219.

 

It was agreed, — That the study of the Main Estimates 2015-16 and the subject matter of Supplementary Estimates (C) 2014-15 be rescheduled for Monday, April 20, 2015, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee study Bill C-597, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., at the meeting of Monday, April 20, 2015 and for the meeting of Wednesday, April 22, 2015.

 

At 5:38 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
