[Translation]

    Good morning.
Once again, this is the 55th meeting of the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs. We have just completed the in camera portion of the meeting, and the proceedings are now public.

[English]

Mr. Lizon, you have the floor.
Last Sunday, Mr. Mieczyslaw “Mitch” Lutczyk, a veteran who was almost 96 years old—he would have had his 96th birthday on July 29—passed away. He was one of the very few left who fought in the defensive war in 1939. Then his story is that with part of the Polish army he went to France and fought defending France. When France fell, he went to England and fought defending England. He then became part of the Polish 1st Armoured Division, which landed in Normandy and was attached to the First Canadian Army. He fought in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, and then moved to Canada. He spent many years in Canada. He was a great community leader. We will all miss him and I would like to show my great respect for everything he has done in his life.
I don't know whether we are going to have another chance to have an S.O. 31 in the House, but I wanted to present this in committee and that's why I wanted this part of the meeting to not be in camera.
    Thank you, Mr. Chair.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
With the consensus of the committee, I would like to thank Mr. Lizon for making this contribution and send the family the deepest thanks of the committee for Mr. Lutczyk's contribution to world freedom.
In closing, on our side, seeing that this may be our last committee, I just want to wish you very good health this summer.
    Thank you.
To all of you, have a great summer and a good run in the campaign. We'll see you all back here, maybe on the other side. You never know.... I'm just kidding. I wish you all the best.
To our folks and everyone else, thanks for your great work.
Mr. Galipeau, thank you very much for your service. Well done. Good health, buddy.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
    The meeting is adjourned.
