EVIDENCE

Thursday, February 5, 2015

[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]

  (0845)

[English]

Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum.

[Translation]

I must inform members that the clerk of the committee can only receive motions for the election of the chair. The clerk cannot entertain any other motions and cannot hear points of order nor take part in debate.

[English]

We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.
I am ready to to receive motions to that effect.
     Mr. Rafferty.
I would like to nominate Royal.
I was leaning that way myself.
    Okay.

[Translation]

    Are there any further motions?

[English]

Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?

[Translation]

I declare the motion carried and Royal Galipeau duly elected.
    (Motion agreed to.)

[English]

I just hope that in October it'll be just as easy.
    Thank you, Mr. Rafferty.
I wonder, Mr. Galipeau, now that you're the chair if we might send a letter of thanks to Mr. Kerr and Mr. Fantino, and I think to Mr. Gill.
It's a most gracious recommendation. I wonder whether there would be a consensus of the committee for that.
If a recommendation could come from this side, there would be consensus.
Since you guys worked so hard to get me out of commission I won't even express an opinion about that. Is there consensus? We're going to send a letter of thanks to each of the individuals concerned.
I'll reserve my own comments about what just happened for the next meeting.
Now I call for the adjournment of the meeting. Thank you.
