[English]

    Honourable members of the committee,

[Translation]

    I see a quorum.

[English]

We can now proceed to the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party.
I am ready to receive motions to that effect.
    I nominate Chris Warkentin.
It has been moved by Ms. Crowder that Mr. Warkentin be elected as chair of the committee.
    Are there any further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Warkentin duly elected chair of the committee.
Before inviting him to take the chair, if the committee wishes, we will now proceed to the election of the vice-chairs.
The first vice-chair must come from the official opposition.
Are there any motions to that effect?
    Mr. Strahl.
    I nominate Jean Crowder.
It has been moved by Mr. Strahl that Ms. Crowder be elected as first vice-chair of the committee.
    Are there further motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Ms. Crowder duly elected first vice-chair of the committee.

[Translation]

I am now ready to receive motions for the position of second vice-chair.
Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the second vice-chair shall be a member of an opposition party other than the official opposition party.

[English]

Are there any motions to that effect?
It has been moved by Ms. Hughes that Ms. Bennett be elected second vice-chair of the committee.
    Are there any other motions?
Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    (Motion agreed to)
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Ms. Bennett duly elected second vice-chair of the committee.
I now invite Mr. Warkentin to take the chair.
Colleagues, thank you very much. It's a privilege to be back here.
The standing orders continue, so it's unnecessary for us to adopt them again.
I'm asking that copies of the land use report be distributed again. My hope is that we can have a conversation among the steering committee members in the next little bit, but I suspect this will be on the minds of committee members, so I'm just asking that there be copies distributed so that members can review that again in anticipation that we'll be dealing with that in meetings to come.
I have no further business to attend to at this meeting, other than I will request that at some point steering committee members collect some ideas as to what your respective parties might want to do and we'll try to collaborate at some point.
    Ms. Crowder.
Will we have a meeting on Thursday, then?
    Let's do that.
We will meet as the steering committee at the regularly scheduled time.
    The meeting is adjourned.
