The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Ed Komarnicki, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Brad Butt, Jean Crowder, Joe Daniel, Carol Hughes, Ed Komarnicki, Kellie Leitch, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Claude Patry, Manon Perreault and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Scott Andrews for Rodger Cuzner and Gerald Keddy for Kellie Leitch.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sandra Gruescu, Analyst; André Léonard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Statistics Canada: Josée Bégin, Director, Centre for Education Statistics; Marc Lachance, Assistant Director, Labour Statistics; Tracey Leesti, Director, Labour Statistics; Kathryn McMullen, Chief, Education Matters and Integrated Analysis. Engineers Canada: Marie Carter, Chief Operating Officer, Interim Chief Executive Officer; Alana Lavoie, Manager, Government Relations. Informetrica Limited: Michael C. McCracken, Chair and Chief Operating Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, the Committee resumed its studies of “Fixing the Skills Gap: Addressing Existing Labour Shortages in High Demand Occupations” and “Understanding Labour Shortages: Addressing Barriers to Filling Low-Skilled Jobs”.
 
 

Tracey Leesti, Josée Bégin, Michael C. McCracken and Marie Carter made statements and, with Marc Lachance and Alana Lavoie, answered questions.

 

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:42 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 5:15 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

At 5:22 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
