The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Paul Dewar, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Hon. Dominic LeBlanc, Ève Péclet, Gary Ralph Schellenberger, Dave Van Kesteren and John Williamson.

 

Acting Members present: Isabelle Morin for Romeo Saganash.

 

Associate Members present: Hon. Mark Eyking.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: James Lee, Analyst; Allison Goody, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an individual: Nadim Gemayel, Member of Parliament, National Assembly of the Lebanese Republic. Office of the Joint Special Representative for Syria: Mokhtar Lamani, Head, Damascus Office.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing on the situation in Syria.
 

Nadim Gemayel, by videoconference from Beirut, Lebanon, made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 9:33 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:35 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

Mokhtar Lamani, by videoconference from Damascus, Syria, made a statement and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That in relation to the study of the Bill C-383, An Act to amend the International Boundary Waters Treaty Act and the International River Improvements Act, the proposed budget in the amount of $3,000 be adopted.

 

At 10:16 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
