The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Greg Kerr, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Sean Casey, Sylvain Chicoine, Corneliu Chisu, Richard M. Harris, Greg Kerr, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Irene Mathyssen, Manon Perreault, Peter Stoffer and Brian Storseth.

 

Acting Members present: Brad Butt for Eve Adams and Bryan Hayes for Brian Storseth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Jean-Rodrigue Paré, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Charlotte Stewart, Director General, Service Delivery and Program Management; Krista Locke, Regional Director General, Atlantic Regional Office ; Bernard Butler, Director General, Policy and Research Division.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 3:34 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:36 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of Transformation Initiatives at Veterans Affairs Canada.
 

Charlotte Stewart and Krista Locke made statements.

 

At 3:42 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit until the witnesses made their statements.

 

At 3:48 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:30 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

The witnesses answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

Sean Casey moved, — That, the Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs establish a subcommittee to immediately undertake a study regarding the subject matter of the sections of Bill C-38, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures, which directly fall within the mandate of this committee, namely Part 4, Division 50: Canadian Forces Members and Veterans Re-establishment and Compensation Act.

Debate arose thereon.

 

Richard M. Harris moved, — That the Committee proceed to sit in camera.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Brad Butt, Corneliu Chisu, Richard M. Harris, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Brian Storseth — 6; NAYS: Sean Casey, Sylvain Chicoine, Irene Mathyssen, Manon Perreault, Peter Stoffer — 5.

 

At 4:44 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:46 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:53 p.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 

Questioning of the witnesses resumed.
