The Standing Committee on Health met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Patricia Davidson, Nicolas Dufour, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Luc Malo, Cathy McLeod, Joyce Murray, Joy Smith and Tim Uppal.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Marie Chia, Analyst; Odette Madore, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada: Sally Brown, Chief Executive Officer. Department of Health: Samuel Godefroy, Director General, Food Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch; William Yan, Acting Director, Bureau of Nutritional Sciences, Food Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch. Baking Association of Canada: Paul Hetherington, President and Chief Executive Officer. Vegetable Oil Industry of Canada Inc.: Sean McPhee, President and Chief Executive Officer; Doug Sparks, Chair of the Board, Vice-President of Bunge Canada. Canadian Restaurant and Foodservices Association: Ron Reaman, Vice-President, Federal. Food and Consumer Products of Canada: Phyllis Tanaka, Vice-President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs (Food Policy).

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, the Committee commenced its study on Health Canada's Trans Fat Monitoring Program.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
