The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen St., the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Maurizio Bevilacqua, Paul Calandra, Olivia Chow, Rick Dykstra, Hon. Jim Karygiannis, Thierry St-Cyr, Ève-Mary Thaï Thi Lac, David Tilson, Alice Wong and Terence Young.

 

Acting Members present: Pablo Rodriguez for Hon. Denis Coderre.

 

In attendance: Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration: Sandra Elgersma. Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure on the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration: Daphne Keevil Harrold.

 

Witnesses: Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada: Brian Goodman, Chairperson; Simon Coakeley, Executive Director, Office of the Executive Director; Sylvia Cox-Duquette, Senior General Counsel. As individuals: Julie Taub, Immigration and Refugee Lawyer, Former Member, Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada; Martin Collacott, Former Canadian Ambassador in Asia and the Middle East.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Thursday, April 29, 2010, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-11, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Federal Courts Act.
 

Brian Goodman made a statement and, with the Simon Coakeley and Sylvia Cox-Duquette, answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:35 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Julie Taub and Martin Collacott, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
