The Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates met in a televised session at 11:06 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Derek Lee, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Diane Bourgeois, Patrick Brown, Paul Calandra, Jacques Gourde, Martha Hall Findlay, Derek Lee, Pat Martin, Jean-Yves Roy and Chris Warkentin.

 

Acting Members present: Judy Foote for Hon. Dan McTeague, Brian Jean for Rob Anders and Daniel Petit for Jacques Gourde.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lydia Scratch, Analyst; Hughes Létourneau, Intern.

 

Appearing: Hon. John Baird, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities.

 

Witnesses: Infrastructure Canada: Louis Ranger, Deputy Head; John Forster, Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy and Communications Branch; Carol Beal, Assistant Deputy Minister, Program Operations Branch; David Cluff, Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services Branch and Chief Financial Officer. Treasury Board Secretariat: Alister Smith, Assistant Secretary, Expenditure Management Sector; Brian Pagan, Executive Director, Expenditure Operations and Estimates Division.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the economic stimulus package.
 

The Minister made a statement and, with Louis Ranger, answered questions.

 

At 12:15 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:20 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (A) 2009-2010: Votes 1a, 20a and 40a under TREASURY BOARD referred to the Committee on Thursday, May 14, 2009.
 

Alister Smith made a statement and, with Brian Pagan, answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Chris Warkentin, it was agreed, — That the Chair be authorized to present a gift to the parliamentary delegation from Pakistan during the Committee's meeting with the delegation.

 

At 1:04 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
