The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 11:10 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Vice-Chair, Lawrence MacAulay, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Mike Allen, Scott Andrews, Raynald Blais, Hon. Gerry Byrne, Blaine Calkins, Randy Kamp, Yvon Lévesque, Hon. Lawrence MacAulay, Peter Stoffer, Dave Van Kesteren and John Weston.

 

Acting Members present: Greg Kerr for Rodney Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: François Côté, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Bernard Applebaum; Scott Parsons.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted an operational budget of $9,700 for its study of Amendments to the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization Convention.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted an operational budget of $13,000 for its study of European legislative actions regarding the Canadian seal harvest.

 

It was agreed, — That the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans be granted an operational budget of $20,400 for its study of the Atlantic Lobster Fishery.

 

It was agreed, — That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee consider the issues raised in the 5th Report of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans in the 2nd Session of the 39th Parliament, entitled “Condition of the Eelgrass Beds in James Bay”, adopt the report and its recommendations and report it to the House requesting a government response.

 

At 11:24 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:28 a.m., the sitting resumed in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 12, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of Amendments to the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization Convention.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
