NUMBER 031
l
2nd SESSION
l
40th PARLIAMENT

EVIDENCE

Thursday, October 1, 2009

[Recorded by Electronic Apparatus]

  (1535)

[English]

     Members of the committee,

[Translation]

I see a quorum. We can proceed with the election of the chair.

[English]

I'm ready to receive motions to that effect.
I nominate Ms. Hedy Fry, please.
It is moved by Mrs. Neville that Mrs. Fry be elected as chair of this committee.
    Are there any other nominations?
There are no other nominations. Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt this motion?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mrs. Fry to be the duly elected chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
We have to move to the election of the vice-chairs.
Do I have any nominations for vice-chair from the government side?
    Mrs. Wong.
    I nominate Ms. Candice Hoeppner.
    Are there any other nominations?

[Translation]

    I nominate Ms. Mathyssen.

[English]

Since we have more than one nomination, we will have to proceed by ballot.
I don't think so; there were two.
    Yes, there were two.
But Mrs. Mathyssen would be for the other nomination.

[Translation]

I thought that we were doing the two nominations at the same time. All right.

[English]

Anyway, it wouldn't have been from the right party, so we're fine as is.
There are no other nominations for a vice-chair from the government side. Therefore, Mrs. Hoeppner is duly elected as government vice-chair.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
The Clerk: Now we need a nomination for the other vice-chair.

[Translation]

I am pleased to nominate Ms. Mathyssen.

[English]

Are there any other nominations for vice-chair from the opposition?
No? Okay. We thus declare Mrs. Mathyssen duly elected vice-chair of the committee.
    Some hon. members: Hear, hear!
Do you wish to go in camera, because we're dealing with the order of business, what we intend to do, and our priorities?
    Some hon. members: Agreed.
    [Proceedings continue in camera]
