The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met by videoconference at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 214, Wellington Building, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Alex Atamanenko, André Bellavance, France Bonsant, Hon. Wayne Easter, Hon. Mark Eyking, Randy Hoback, Larry Miller, Blake Richards, Bev Shipley, Brian Storseth and Francis Valeriote.

 

Acting Members present: James Bezan for Pierre Lemieux and Hon. Geoff Regan for Hon. Wayne Easter.

 

Associate Members present: Nathan Cullen.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Mathieu Frigon, Analyst. House of Commons: Isabelle Duford, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Kettle River Stockmen's Association: Ed Fossen, Director. Perth County Beef Farmers Association: Bill Jeffrey, President; Ken Strawbridge, Consultant. National Farmers Union: Grant Robertson, Board Member; Fred Tait, Board Member. As individuals: Henry Rosing, Rancher; Carol Haley, Rancher.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on February 24, 2009, the Committee resumed its study of the Situation of the Red Meat Sector.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

On motion of Alex Atamanenko, it was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $ 22,488.00, for the study on the Situation of the Red Meat Sector be adopted.

 

At 1:31 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
